Low sodium meal delivery for seniors

Types of Specialized Meal Plans for Seniors

Low sodium meal delivery for seniors

From low sodium meal delivery to diabetic, vegetarian, and more we offer a wide variety of specialized meal plans for seniors. Each one is designed to provide a nutritious eating experience that does not sacrifice taste.

As our bodies age, our dietary needs also evolve. For example, a person who may develop a chronic heart condition later in life will need to adhere to a different diet to support their cardiac health. In this case, that person’s physician might recommend a low sodium meal plan for their patient.

At DeliverLean Care, we partner with nutritionists and professional chefs to challenge the notion that healthy food is bland, flavorless, and unexciting. We develop recipes that are rich in flavor and do not rely on high levels of sodium, sugar, and carbohydrates for taste. Instead, we let the flavors of high-quality, whole ingredients speak for themselves. There’s no substitute for fresh food, and we do not use anything frozen.

Here is a rundown of some of the specialized senior meal plans we offer:

Low Sodium Meal Plan

Did you know that a low sodium diet can help regulate blood pressure, improve breathing, and reduce fluid retention? Our low sodium plan helps support these heart health goals while still providing a flavorful eating experience at no more than 2,000 mg of sodium per day and less than 660mg for each meal.

Depending on one’s clinical status, a low sodium diet will especially benefit those who are experiencing any of the following conditions:

  • High blood pressure
  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Heart failure
  • Kidney disease
  • Signs of swelling

Though sodium plays a vital role in regulating fluid balance in your body, excess amounts can place a strain on your heart and lungs. Instead, our meal plans provide just the right amount to support healthy levels of bodily fluids and help reduce blood pressure.

Diabetic Meal Plans

For people living with diabetes, monitoring your blood sugar and other nutrient levels can cause a great deal of stress. From carefully reading labels on grocery items to meticulously tracking your intake throughout the day, there are many nutritional aspects to consider.

To best manage a healthy diabetic diet, balancing your meals will best support your goals. For seniors living with diabetes, we offer the following diabetic meal plan features:

  • Carbohydrate-balanced meal (40-60g per plate)
  • 3-4 oz of lean protein per meal
  • One half-cup of fiber-rich foods per meal

Carbohydrates convert into glucose during the digestion process, which poses a significant threat to the body’s blood sugar levels if not managed properly. To help you achieve ideal blood sugar regulation, we only include healthy sources of carbohydrates, portioned in moderation, so that you can enjoy a flavorful dish with peace of mind.

Pureed Meals

Do you or a loved one struggle with chewing or swallowing? A pureed meal plan offers a person the ability to still enjoy delicious, chef-designed meals but with a smooth consistency that can be easily eaten and enjoyed with a spoon or fork.

Kosher Senior Meal Plans

The kosher diet offers many health benefits, largely credited to the preparation methods mandated by Jewish law. Our kosher customers can enjoy ready-made meals with balanced macro and micronutrients that are sodium-controlled and prepared with separate tools and equipment.

Vegetarian Meal Plans

Our vegetarian meal plans provide a balanced, nutritional dining experience without the addition of any meats. We follow the “lacto-ovo-vegetarian” pattern, which consists of a variety of:

  • Vegetables
  • Whole grains
  • Legumes
  • Soy
  • Nuts
  • Eggs
  • Dairy

Each of our vegetarian meals will always include:

  •  Approximately one-half to one-and-a-half cups of vegetables
  • 3 to 5 servings of healthily sourced carbohydrates

Do You Offer Vegan Options?

While we do not currently offer a distinctly vegan meal plan, we are always looking for new ways to best serve our senior neighbors. If you adhere to a completely plant-based diet and would like to know what options we can provide for you, please contact us directly and inquire at any time.
